Erova
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 9 October 2026. Last updated: 9 October 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Erova collects, how we use it, who else is involved, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Erova website at https://erova.in and to the Erova Android app, which shows the same service.
1. Who we are
Erova is a dating service for adults in India, operated by Erova ("Erova", "we", "us"). It exists to help people who want to meet someone find each other, talk, and go on a date.
2. Information you give us
Account details. Your email address, which is how you sign in, and your date of birth, which we use to confirm you are 18 or older and to show your age. We store your email address encrypted, and we look it up using a keyed one-way hash rather than the address itself.
Waitlist details. While Erova is opening area by area, joining means giving your email address, date of birth and the area you would meet people in, and agreeing to the notice shown when you join. If you joined through someone else's invitation, we record that link.
Your profile. Your first name, gender (and a self-description if you choose one), sexual orientation, what you are looking for, and your answers to three profile prompts. You can also add your work, education, languages, interests, height, and whether you drink, smoke or follow a religion. All of these optional details are your choice.
Your photographs. The photos you upload to your profile, in JPEG or PNG format. Before a photo is stored we remove the metadata embedded in the file, including any location your camera recorded.
Your dating preferences. The age range, distance, genders and intentions of the people you would like to meet.
Your conversations. The messages you send to people you have matched with, and any photos you send inside a conversation.
Reports and grievances. If you report another member, we record who and what you reported, the category you chose, anything you wrote, and, where you choose to include it, the conversation as evidence. If you raise a grievance with us, we record its category and what you wrote.
Premium. Erova Premium is an optional paid membership. Premium payments are not being taken at the moment. When they are, the payment itself is handled by our payment provider (see section 9). Erova keeps a record of each order: the plan, amount, currency, status, dates, and the provider's order and payment references. The phone number the provider asks for at checkout is passed to them for that payment and is not stored by Erova. We do not store card numbers, UPI details or bank details.
3. Information created as you use Erova
Interactions. The likes you send (each one is attached to a specific photo or prompt answer), the profiles you pass on, your matches, the people you block, and the in-app notifications we show you. Erova does not have read receipts.
Sign-in and session information. The sign-in codes we send are stored only as a one-way hash and expire after five minutes. When you sign in, we create a session that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, or until 14 days without use. We store a one-way hash of the session token, a simple device description taken from your browser (for example "Chrome on Android"), and when the session was created and last used.
Security information. To limit abuse of sign-in and sign-up, we count requests against a one-way hash of your network address. We do not store the address itself, and these counts are deleted within about a day. We also keep audit records of security-relevant and moderation actions, which identify accounts only by an internal reference.
Product analytics. We record a small, fixed set of events to understand how Erova is used: when a session starts and ends, when a profile is completed, when a profile is viewed in Discover, when a like or pass is sent, when a match is created, when a message is sent, and, for Premium, when the page is viewed, a plan is chosen, a checkout is started and a payment succeeds. Each event is stored against a pseudonym derived from your account using a secret key, never your name, email address or messages. Analytics are recorded on our own servers; we do not use any third-party analytics, advertising or tracking service.
4. Location
You choose your state and city, and the area where you would meet people. Other members see that area or city and a rough distance band, never an address or an exact position.
Erova does not currently collect location from your device. If we introduce device location in future, it will be optional, it will be asked for separately with an explanation first, and this policy will be updated before it is used.
5. Cookies and browser storage
Erova uses a small number of strictly necessary items, and no advertising or tracking cookies.
- session: keeps you signed in. It is HttpOnly (not readable by scripts on the page), Secure (sent only over HTTPS), and SameSite=Lax. It expires when your session does.
- erova_app: set only when you open the Erova Android app. It tells our servers that you are using the app, so that Premium is not offered for purchase inside it. It lasts up to one year and holds no personal information.
- erova.conversations.seen: stored in your browser's local storage, on your device only, to remember which conversations you have already opened.
The Erova website also uses a service worker that stores the site's own design files and an offline page on your device, so the app opens quickly. It never stores your messages, your profile or any other personal information.
6. How we use your information
- To create and run your account, sign you in, and keep your account secure.
- To confirm you are 18 or older.
- To build your profile and show it to members you are eligible to meet, and to decide who appears in your Discover set based on both people's preferences, area and intentions. This is done by rules, not by automated profiling of your behaviour.
- To deliver likes, matches, messages and notifications.
- To review photos and content for safety, act on reports and grievances, and enforce our Community Guidelines.
- To provide Premium features if you have Premium.
- To prevent and investigate abuse, fraud and security incidents.
- To understand, in aggregate, how Erova is used, so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
7. What other members can see
Erova is a dating service, so parts of your profile are shown to other members by design. Members you are eligible to meet can see your first name, age, gender, what you are looking for, your area or city and a rough distance band, your work and languages if you added them, your interests, your prompt answers, and your photos once they have been approved.
Other members do not see your email address, phone number, date of birth, exact location, dating preferences, or anything you have reported. Your height, education, orientation, and whether you drink, smoke or follow a religion are not shown to other members at present.
If you like someone, they may see that you liked them. If you both like each other, you match, and each of you can see the other's profile and send messages. Your messages are visible to the person you are talking to. If you choose Private Discovery, you are shown in Discover only to people you have liked.
Please think before putting sensitive information in your profile or photos, because profiles are designed to be seen by other members. You can block or report anyone, from their profile or from a conversation.
8. Moderation and safety
Every profile photo is reviewed before anyone else can see it. Photos sent in conversations are checked before they are shown to the other person. Automated image analysis assists this review by flagging content that may break our rules, but a person makes every decision that has consequences for an account.
When a conversation is named in a report, our moderators can read it, and its messages and photos are kept as evidence for that report. Reports are handled under our Community Guidelines, which explain what we act on and how.
9. Service providers
We use a small number of service providers to run Erova. They process information only to provide their service to us.
- DigitalOcean hosts Erova's application servers.
- Amazon Web Services stores photos (in private storage) and provides the automated image analysis used in photo review.
- Resend delivers the emails that carry your sign-in codes. It receives your email address and the code.
- Cashfree Payments will process Premium payments when they are available. When you pay, you give your payment details to Cashfree directly, and Cashfree tells us whether the payment succeeded.
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.
10. Where your information is processed
Erova's application servers are located in Bengaluru, India. Some of the information described in this policy, including information handled by our service providers, may be stored or processed outside India.
11. How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account exists, and then as described in section 12. Some information has a shorter, fixed life.
- Sign-in codes expire after five minutes and are deleted about 24 hours after they expire.
- Records used to limit abuse of sign-in are deleted within about a day after the period they cover ends.
- When a match ends, the conversation is kept for 30 days and then deleted, including any photos in it. We keep it for that short time because people sometimes report a conversation after it has ended. A conversation named in a report is kept as evidence for that report instead.
- Reports, moderation records and enforcement decisions are kept for as long as they are needed to protect members, handle appeals, and prevent banned accounts from returning.
- Payment records are kept for as long as they are needed for accounting and legal purposes.
When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we delete it.
12. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time, from the website or the app: sign in, open your Profile, choose "Your data and account settings", and use "Delete your account". Deletion happens immediately. Full instructions are at https://erova.in/delete-account, which works without the app.
When you delete your account, we immediately delete your profile, prompt answers, dating preferences, profile photos (including the stored files), email address, any phone number, date of birth, location information, likes and passes you sent or received, blocks made by or against you, your notifications, your sessions on every device, your waitlist entry, any remaining Premium period, the photos you sent in conversations, and your analytics events.
Your matches end at once, so the other person can no longer see your conversations. The messages are deleted 30 days later, as described in section 11.
We keep only the following, for the reasons given:
- Reports other members made about you, because they protect other members and may be appealed.
- Reports and grievances you made, as case records without your identity. What you wrote in them is deleted once the case is closed.
- Conversations named in a report, including their photos, as evidence for that report.
- Photos under a legal hold, until the hold ends. If this applies to you, we tell you when you delete.
- Records of moderation decisions about the account, identified only by an internal reference.
- Payment records, if you bought Premium, no longer linked to your account.
- If the account was banned, a one-way code derived from its email address (and phone number, if it had one), never the address or number itself, so that the same address cannot be used to open a new account. It is kept for as long as the ban remains active or otherwise relevant to preventing ban evasion, and deleted when the ban is lifted or that reason no longer applies.
- An internal record that the account existed and was deleted, holding no email address, phone number, date of birth or profile.
13. Your choices and requests
- See and change your information: you can edit your profile, photos and preferences at any time.
- Get a copy: "Download your data" on your account page gives you a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Correct it: if something we hold is wrong and you cannot change it yourself, tell us through the Grievance page.
- Delete it: see section 12.
- Ask a question or make a request: sign in and use the Grievance page at https://erova.in/grievance, choosing "Privacy or data request". You will receive a reference for your request.
Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights over your personal information. We will respond to requests in line with the law that applies to you.
14. Security
We protect your information with measures that include:
- HTTPS for every connection to Erova.
- Sign-in by one-time code, with the code stored only as a one-way hash.
- Your email address and any phone number stored encrypted, and looked up by a keyed one-way hash.
- Session tokens stored only as a one-way hash, in a cookie that scripts cannot read and that is sent only over HTTPS.
- A check on every request that you are allowed to see or change what you asked for.
- Photos kept in private storage, reachable only through links that expire after five minutes, with embedded metadata removed before storage.
- Limits on repeated sign-in attempts.
Messages are protected in transit and by these access controls, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. No service can guarantee that information is completely secure, and we do not claim that Erova is. If you think your account has been accessed by someone else, sign out and tell us through the Grievance page.
15. Adults only, and children's privacy
Erova is only for people aged 18 or over. You must be 18 or older to create or keep an account, and we check this using your date of birth. Erova is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we remove it. If you believe someone under 18 is using Erova, report their profile and choose "Underage user", which our moderators treat as a priority.
16. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices, our service, or the law changes. The version number and the date it took effect are shown at the top of this page. If we make a significant change, we will say so clearly on this page and, where the law requires it, tell you directly.
17. Contact
For any question or request about your information, sign in and use the Grievance page at https://erova.in/grievance, choosing "Privacy or data request". To delete your account, follow the steps at https://erova.in/delete-account.
